earnest and inspired work since 1996.
An award-winning graphic design, letterpress printing, and book production studio in its third decade, Horse & Buggy Press is located in Durham, North Carolina at 1116 Broad Street where we also curate a 500 square foot fine craft and art gallery appropriately called Horse & Buggy Press and Friends. The gallery features work by dozens of established artists and craftspersons from across the Southeast, many of whom we have collaborated with on book projects.
We head up the printed matter sector of the Aesthetic Police — an emergency relief agency working to counteract the continued decimation of worldwide aesthetic standards. Like any (self-appointed) regulatory agency, we aren’t shy about overstepping our bounds. All kidding aside, we are serious about demonstrating the power, mystique, and aura of print. Through our work on projects large and small, public and private, we are quietly instrumental in demonstrating the relevance of beauty, the importance of attention to detail, and the pleasure in creating, seeing, and interacting with well-designed printed materials.
Ink on paper has lasting power. Truth. We believe print is an amazing medium that often does things more powerfully than digital devices, social media, and the various gizmos that we are all supposed to keep up with these days. And yes, we are aware we just told you that through backlit pixels on the internets. Equally adept at utilizing hand, digital, and mechanical technologies of design and production, we use all tools and processes available to create engaging printed materials.
Creating contemporary work in a variety of contexts and styles, we have won national design awards while working with a diverse range of clients and collaborators from near and afar. We have a legion of satisfied clients and collaborators who enjoyed the process, and end users who appreciate the artifacts produced with a keen attention to detail.
